We have two new ones going now.
First, there is “The Challenge of FMLA Use and Abuse in the Workplace.” This is being presented by Charlie Plumb with Doerner, Saunders, Daniel & Anderson in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Linda Walton with Perkins Coie in its Seattle office. This presentation was made at AEIS in Nashville by Marc Fleischauer with Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur in Columbus, Ohio, and Audra Hamilton from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Does anything cause HR as many day-in-and-day-out problems as the FMLA? No. The issues are never ending. The answers are less than clear. Serious health condition. Unscheduled intermittent leave. Medical certifications. Second opinions. Deducting leave for intermittent purposes. Working while on FMLA leave. Recertification. Nooooooooooo moooooooore. As best they can, the presenters are trying to address these FMLA issues and much more in a practical way for AEIS attendees.
Second, there is “Small World Big Differences: Managing Workforces Outside the U.S.” This is being presented by Francisco Pena Valdes with Cacheaux, Cavozos & Newton in McAllen, Texas, and Paul Boniferro with McCarthy Tetrault in Toronto. This presentation was made by Francisco and Brian Smeenk, also with McCarthy Tetrault, at AEIS in Nashville. The laws of Mexico and Canada are being carefully reviewed. They are different from those in the U.S., you know.
